Privacy policy

What ToolPassed collects, why, and who handles it. Last updated 2026-10-14.

This is a plain-English description of what this site actually does. It is not legal advice.

Browsing the site

The site is static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it counts page views, pages, referrers and country without cookies, fingerprinting or tracking you across sites. We run no tracking pixels and no advertising scripts, and the site sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare, as our host, processes standard request data (such as IP address and browser details) to serve and protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Your browser stores two small settings locally (localStorage), never sent to us: your light/dark theme choice and whether you hid the sponsor bar.

Likes are anonymous. Your browser keeps a random visitor ID and the list of items you liked in localStorage. When you click a heart we store that random ID with the item to prevent double counting, plus a per-item count. No name, email or IP address is stored with a like.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we store your email address with our email provider, Resend. Signup is double opt-in: you get a confirmation email, and you only receive the newsletter after clicking its link (it expires after 48 hours). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. To limit abuse, the signup endpoint briefly keeps a count of attempts per IP address in memory; it is not stored with your email.

Sponsors

Sponsorships are paid through Stripe Payment Links. We receive what you enter at checkout: your email, sponsor name, short pitch and link URL, plus the payment record. Stripe handles card details; we never see or store your card data. Sponsor names, pitches and links are published in the sponsor bar and newsletter during the sponsored week.

Tool submissions

If you submit a tool at /submit/, we store what you enter (tool name, URL, type, category, note, your email, whether you made it) plus the time and your country as reported by Cloudflare. It is stored in Cloudflare (Workers KV) and emailed to us via Resend so we can review it. We use your email only to tell you once when the tool has been tested; it is not added to the newsletter. We delete a submission on request.

A paid priority review is checked out through Stripe the same way as sponsorships: we receive your email, tool name and tool URL plus the payment record.

Affiliate links

There are none on the site today. If we add them, they will be marked rel="sponsored", disclosed next to the link, and this page will be updated. The affiliate partner may then process data about your click under its own policy.

Outbound links

Listings link to GitHub, vendor sites and docs. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

Access and deletion

To see, correct or delete data we hold about you (newsletter address, tool submissions, sponsor details), email privacy@toolpassed.com. You can also unsubscribe at any time with the link in any newsletter email. Payment records kept by Stripe may need to be retained for accounting and legal reasons.

Changes

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, with a new date at the top.
